Boasting a new slim design and accurate directional counting, the PC-2D2M counter is powered by and transmits directional data by a single cable. This simple set-up and discrete enclosure makes installation more efficient than comparable systems with reflectors to align or batteries to replace. What’s more, this counter can be installed either at the side or over the entryway, offering even further convenience.

This final section of the three part series focuses on analyzing your facility’s traffic count data using calculations. Not only is it important to have accurate information, it is just as important to know what to do with that information once collected.

Part 3: Calculations

Based on application and facility, specific calculations can be performed to analyze data collected from your system. A common calculation for retailers and librarians is a conversion ratio comparing the total number of people entering the facility to the number of transactions performed…

1. Twitter

Manning our booth, we’re limited to how much of the conference we can see, but the ALA Twitter feed enables a real-time “bird’s eye view” of what’s going on down the hall and allows us to interact with other Tweeps.

2. Librarian Humor

From funny posts on blogs and Twitter to witty t-shirts at the show, one of the best parts of library conferences is librarian humor. Even seminar session titles are creatively entertaining. A few of our favorite:

•Purple Crayons, Random Dots, and Peanut Butter Sandwiches: Children’s Literature as Catalyst for Creativity and Change in the Workplace”

•“Move Over Dick and Jane: Reconsidering Books for Beginning Readers”

•“Less Train, More Gain : Using Technology to Train, Maintain, and Retain Part-time and Student Employees”

3. Restaurants

Uncovering local favorites and great new restaurants is the perfect end to a long day of exhibiting. We’re still open to suggestions but here are a couple establishments we’re looking forward to trying:

•Jaleo Tapas Bar – Downtown 480 7th Street NW

Experience a variety with authentic Spanish small plate dining

•Pizzeria Paradiso – Dupont Circle

You can never go wrong with a pizzeria – especially one with rave reviews.

•Starbucks – Inside the JW Marriott Hotel

Receive all of the benefits and ease of use of our popular TB06 counter plus the installation advantage of an even stronger radio transmission range with our new 900MHz Wireless Non-Directional People Counter.

Carrying a stronger radio transmission enables this sensor to be placed an average of 325 feet away from its receiver counterpart within the facility, as opposed to 75 feet with a 418MHz transmitter. Also, operating with battery-power, this sensor is ideal for a wide array of locations where line-power is unavailable including recreational facilities, parks and exterior entryways. To accommodate mounting options for the wide variety of entryway styles, this two-part break-beam system is both front and side-firing and covers openings up to 40 feet wide.

This sensor’s durable casing includes a 6-digit LCD that displays count data and set-up parameters. As a power-saving feature, the LCD display only flashes while counting or activated, increasing battery-life. The 900MHz system combined with a Sensor Server Data Receiver enables computer integration to view count data as it is automatically placed into time-bins. One step further, Vea Software is installed in the system for automatic report generation and other customizable data options.

Last month we introduced the guide to optimizing thermal imaging use, discussing the importance of location.

The following is part two of the three part series compiled from several of our manuals and guides to ensure our Thermal Imaging Counter with TCP/IP Connectivity provides the most accurate data.

Part 2: Validation

During initial installation and periodically after, you will want to verify the accuracy of your count data. The most reliable method to validate the accuracy of a system is to compare hand-counted customer traffic to data collected by the system over the same period of time. A second effective validation process is to calculate the variation rate of in-traffic counts to out-traffic counts using the following equation:

[( out-in ) ÷ out ] ÷ 2 = Variation Percent

The lower the percent, the more accurate your system is. A variation percent of less than 10% is preferable and a higher percentage indicates a necessary change to your system.
