While we’re looking forward to chatting with our library clients and partners, meeting new librarians and library staff members and showing off our patron counting technologies at ALA this week, we’re also looking forward to a few miscellaneous elements that come hand in hand with traveling and exhibiting…
1. Twitter
Manning our booth, we’re limited to how much of the conference we can see, but the ALA Twitter feed enables a real-time “bird’s eye view” of what’s going on down the hall and allows us to interact with other Tweeps.
2. Librarian Humor
From funny posts on blogs and Twitter to witty t-shirts at the show, one of the best parts of library conferences is librarian humor. Even seminar session titles are creatively entertaining. A few of our favorite:
•Purple Crayons, Random Dots, and Peanut Butter Sandwiches: Children’s Literature as Catalyst for Creativity and Change in the Workplace”
•“Move Over Dick and Jane: Reconsidering Books for Beginning Readers”
•“Less Train, More Gain : Using Technology to Train, Maintain, and Retain Part-time and Student Employees”
3. Restaurants
Uncovering local favorites and great new restaurants is the perfect end to a long day of exhibiting. We’re still open to suggestions but here are a couple establishments we’re looking forward to trying:
•Jaleo Tapas Bar – Downtown 480 7th Street NW
Experience a variety with authentic Spanish small plate dining
•Pizzeria Paradiso – Dupont Circle
You can never go wrong with a pizzeria – especially one with rave reviews.
•Starbucks – Inside the JW Marriott Hotel
Fuel up before heading to the Convention Center!
