David Jacoby, Junior Software Developer
How did you get interested in Software Dev?
I was always interested in computers from a young age, I thought they were really cool. As a teenager, I was a gamer and built my own computer and helped people build websites. That’s what led me down the path into IT. What led me to SenSource was that it was one of the few local companies that actually works in the software stack I’m interested in.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
Some of my day-to-day activities are bug fixing and designing and developing new features as well as applications for our analytics platform.
What do you enjoy the most?
What I enjoy the most about Software Development is that every day is unique. You’re always solving new problems and learning new technologies. It’s not a mundane job, every day is a little different.
What’s the vibe in the Dev department?
We like to have a lot of fun, but we also like to work hard. We’re always learning the newest and best practices and technologies to improve our product for our customers as well as for ourselves internally.
Tell us about a major accomplishment.
Recently we just finished our MVP for our reporting platform, which is a major piece for updating our analytics platform for our customers. My role in implementing the MVP was to help design and implement the query builder that dynamically queries our database to return traffic data in different time-series scales as well as different aggregations.
How do you destress after work?
One of my favorite things to do to destress after a long day of coding is I go home and stare at another computer screen and play video games. Currently, my game of choice is World of Warcraft.
Favorite out of office activities?
When I’m not at SenSource, I like to spend time with my wife and my family and go golfing and try out new wineries and breweries.
How would you describe SenSource to a friend?
We’re a small and scrappy company that pulls big customers. We like to have a lot of fun and we get a lot of autonomy within our jobs due to the trust instilled in us from our leadership. But at the end of the day, we’re just a group of people working as hard was we can to do the best that we can.
